Saludos!
One Frequently Asked Question I get is “How much should I tip and who should I tip?“
This is a question I am constantly asking wherever I travel. There is nothing like saying a big “Thank you” to the smiling, cheery person who cooked you a beautiful breakfast every day, or the staff member who went the extra mile to make some special request happen.
Each country has its own set of customs and expectations. What works well in one may be considered an insult in another. Here are a few suggestions to help you decode this enigma.
Tipping in Mexico
As a rule of thumb, Mexico has adopted the USA style of tipping, 15-20% is considered the norm in restaurants, for massages or excellent service. For drivers, the amount is 50 pesos and up.
Housekeepers will expect about $25 to $50 USD per day, depending on the service they provide.
As for other service providers, such as surf and dive instructors, boat captains, tour guides, etc., the norm is between $20-$50 USD, depending on the service.
